How to diversify the menu in the post

Great Lent in 2018 begins on February 19 and lasts 49 days, until April 7th. In Orthodoxy, this post is considered the most strict, so decided to make a selection of delicious and interesting dishes that will diversify the lean menu.

Breakfast

Buckwheat porridge is suitable for breakfast during the Fourteenth Week. with tomatoes. Very simple and, at the same time, tasty and satisfying dish. For cooking, rinse the cereals and cook in water until half ready. While porridge is cooked – fry the onion until golden colors. Blanch tomatoes, cut and send to onion for 5 minutes. Mix porridge with tomatoes and onions, salt, add spice. Cover and simmer until buckwheat is completely ready.

After buckwheat porridge, you can drink winter tea, the secret which lies in the addition of rosemary and cinnamon to black tea. Slice a lemon in a teapot. Add a pinch of black tea, and rosemary cinnamon. Pour boiling water and leave for 15 minutes.

Dinner

For a full dinner, be sure to cook the soup. We recommend lean borsch with beans. Beans need to soak overnight in cold water, then rinse and cook over low heat for 30 minutes. Grate one beetroot, sweeten and sprinkle with lemon, and the second cut into strips. Fry the chopped beets, and then put it out in a pan. Peel, cut and send the potato to the beans. Chop the cabbage and add to the pan. Red pepper cut into cubes and add to the soup, add the fried last, as well as grated beets. After a few minutes, the soup will be ready.

For the second you can cook a hearty pearl barley dish with the addition of vegetables. Boil 3 cups of water, pour well washed cereals and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, recline on colander. Boil 2 more glasses of water, salt and add the cereal. Cook with the lid closed until thick. Finely chop the onion, tomato and carrots, stew in a pan with vegetable oil 10 minutes. Add vegetables to barley and mix.

At the end of the dinner, we offer home-made compote made from apples, fragrant and healthy. The drink is not only delicious, but also quenches thirst well. Wash apples, chop slices arbitrary size and core. Apple slices put in a pan, add 7-10 stars of cloves and one a tablespoon of sugar. Pour 1.5 liters of water. Put the pan on medium fire. When the water boils, add another spoonful of sugar and remove from the stove immediately. When the compote has cooled, it can be served to to the table.

Dinner

For dinner, make stewed cabbage with mushrooms. Mushrooms from the point nutritional value is a great substitute for meat, so it’s worth regularly include them in the lean menu. For cooking, you need to thinly chop cabbage and then fry it. After that make fire smaller, add bay leaf to the pan. Stew 1 hour, not forgetting to stir. Wash and chop mushrooms and onions. Fry on medium heat until the liquid evaporates. A mixture of champignons with onions add slices to cabbage. Put tomato sauce in there Add salt and pepper to taste. Hold on low heat for another 15 minutes.

Before going to bed, it will be useful to drink a fragrant berry jelly. For it, you can take any berries that are laid out in a pan and rubbed. The resulting puree is poured with two liters of water, Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Starch bred in cold water and poured into boiling jelly, there sugar is added to taste. The resulting mixture must be brought back to boil and remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly and pour into cups, be sure to strain through a sieve.
