Difficulty: Easy Portions: 4 V recipes use measured containers with a volume of: 1 glass (tbsp.) – 240 ml 3/4 cup (st.) – 180 ml. 1/2 cup (tbsp.) – 120 ml. 1/3 cups (st.) – 80 ml. 1/4 cup (st.) – 60 ml. 1 tablespoon (tbsp. l.) – 15 ml. 1 teaspoon (tsp) – 5 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 bag (400 gr.) Extra hard tofu
  • 1 small onion, cut into slices 6 mm thick.
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chop coarsely
  • 1.5 tbsp. l olive oil
  • Juice 2 oranges
  • 1 medium hikama root crop (approximately 350 gr.)
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (mix of spices with chili recipe see here)
  • 4 small baguettes of whole grain flour, make a longitudinal incision
  • 1/4 Art. yellow mustard
  • 1 1/4 Art. grated on a coarse grater low calorie Swiss cheese with low salt content (150 gr.)
  • 2/3 Art. canned grilled red sweet pepper, drain and rinse
  • 1/2 pickled cucumber with dill, finely chopped (approximately 1/4 tbsp.)

Recipe preparation:

  1. Put tofu on a cutting board and cut into 8 equal slices. Mix onion, garlic, olive oil and half in a bowl orange juice, add tofu and cover evenly with marinade; leave to marinate for 5 – 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, peel the hikama and cut into strips. Stir in the remaining orange juice and chili powder.
  3. Heat a large non-stick pan to moderately high temperature. Add tofu and fry until golden colors, 3 minutes each from each side. Transfer tofu to a dish. Add the marinade to the pan and cook, stirring, 4 minutes.
  4. Spread mustard on bread crumbs and sprinkle with cheese. Put in inside baked peppers, pickled cucumber, onion mixture and tofu.
  5. Heat a large cast-iron pan to medium temperature. Place one sandwich in the pan and press on top of the heavy a frying pan; fry until golden brown, for 2 – 3 minutes. with two sides until the cheese melts. Fry the remaining sandwiches. Serve with hikama.
