Turkish Sweetness – Cezerye – caramelized carrot paste with nuts

Have you ever tried Geserier – a delicious pastry from carrots, nuts and sugar, sprinkled with coconut? This Turkish sweetness is not only healthy, but also an aphrodisiac.

Geserrier is from Mersin, an area in southern Turkey, therefore people living abroad often do not have access to all of these delicious treats. But if you are brave enough, you yourself can make a real turkish treat, pamper your family and friends this delicious carrot delicacy.

  • Coconut flakes – 1/3 cup
  • A bowl of water will be needed to form the Geserier – balls or squares

Recipe preparation:

  1. In a pan, mix grated carrots, half a glass of water and sugar. Cook over medium heat, not closing and stirring frequently. It takes about 30 minutes to cook or until all the liquid has evaporate.
  2. Add half a glass of water and simmer again until carrots will not become soft and will not turn into mashed potatoes (pasta). In that moment the composition should caramelize and become sticky (for Checks you can take a little paste and twist between your fingers, with this should form a “sausage”). Turn off the fire.
  3. Pour chopped walnuts into carrot paste and well mix.
  4. Take out a small rectangular dish or tray, line it parchment paper. Spread the puree over it tightly and evenly, layer height should be approximately one and a half centimeter.
  5. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  6. Now we are starting to form Geziers. In a bowl of water, wet hands, take a dessert spoon and make small balls out of pasta, or cut into small squares with a knife.
  7. Pour coconut flakes onto a dry surface and roll in her sweets. Jéréier can be stored in an airtight container in during the week.
