Chile with a turkey in a slow cooker

A thick and rich dish of Chili con carne (Spanish: chili con carne – chili with meat), popular in the US states bordering Mexico. The basis of the dish is minced turkey stew in a slow cooker along with hot peppers, tomatoes, beans and aromatic spices. To mince saturated with vivid tastes before sending it out to stew, fry in a pan with spices, pepper and tomato paste, and then transfer to a slow cooker along with the rest ingredients. A little cocoa powder added to the dish will give give it a deeper taste, emphasizing the other spices, and will perform as a thickener. Difficulty: easy Servings: 8-10 The recipes use dimensional capacity: 1 cup (tbsp.) – 240 ml. 3/4 cup (st.) – 180 ml 1/2 cup (tbsp.) – 120 ml. 1/3 cup (st.) – 80 ml. 1/4 cups (st.) – 60 ml. 1 tablespoon (tbsp.) – 15 ml. 1 teahouse spoon (tsp) – 5 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 tbsp. l vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp. l tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp. l chili powder
  • 1 tbsp. l ground zira
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 350 gr minced turkey (preferably dark meat)
  • 1 can 800 gr. canned baked tomatoes, chopped cubes
  • 2 and 3/4 Art. lightly salted chicken broth + additionally, to dilute chili if necessary
  • 1/4 Art. cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. l red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. l dried oregano
  • 2 cans of 425 gr. Canned Pinto Beans, Liquid drain, rinse the beans
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp. chopped corn tortilla chips + whole chips for filing
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • Sliced green onions, grated cheddar, sour cream and chopped marinated jalapenos, served

Recipes with similar ingredients: tomato paste, chili seasoning, cumin, ground cayenne pepper, minced turkey, tomatoes, broth, cocoa, wine vinegar, oregano, pinto beans, onions, tortilla, garlic, green onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream, jalapeno peppers

Recipe preparation:

  1. In a large frying pan over medium heat, heat the oil. Add tomato paste, chili powder, zira and cayenne pepper and cook, stirring, until the butter turns brick orange, and the mixture is dry, about 2 minutes. Add minced turkey and 1 tsp. salt and fry, stirring and breaking it into small pieces, so that everything mix evenly (minced meat should not be fully prepared for this moment). Transfer the mixture to a 6 liter slow cooker.
  2. Add tomatoes, chicken stock, cocoa powder to the pan, vinegar, oregano and 1 tsp. salt and bring, stirring, to a boil. Cook for about 2 minutes. Transfer the tomato mixture along with the beans, onions, minced chips and garlic in a slow cooker and well mix. Cover and cook with low heat 6-8 hours.
  3. Add chicken stock if necessary to make Chile more liquid. Salt. Serve with onions, cheddar, sour cream, pickled jalapenos and tortilla chips.
