Water chestnuts wrapped in bacon

Water chestnut (chilli, water chestnut) can be excellent appetizer. Serve a snack to your guests, to partially alleviate hunger and pass the time before cooking main course.

From water chestnuts wrapped in bacon and supplemented with soy sauce and sweet brown sugar, it’s great holiday snack. Crispy middle contrasts remarkably with fleshy bacon and sticky sweet icing.

  • 450 gr canned whole water chestnuts, washed and drained
  • 2 tbsp. l soy sauce
  • 14 pieces of bacon, cut diagonally into three parts
  • 0.33 Art. ketchup
  • 0.33 Art. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. l Worcester sauce

Recipe preparation:

  1. Mix water chestnuts and soy sauce in a plastic bag with a fastener and let it marinate at room temperature, shaking and kneading the packet periodically, 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C. Wrap each water chestnut in piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Set the grill to baking sheet and top with chestnuts wrapped in bacon. Bake about 30 minutes, until fat is bled from the bacon, it should become crispy.
  3. Mix ketchup, brown sugar, Worcester sauce and 0.33 tbsp. water in a bowl, you get the sauce. Remove the pan from the oven and carefully remove the grill from it. Drain grease from a baking sheet and wipe dry it with paper towels. Fill a baking sheet with foil and sprinkle lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Caution transfer the chestnuts to a bowl of sauce, dipped on all sides, then lay them on a baking sheet.
  4. Return the pan to the oven and bake, shaking every a few minutes until the sauce turns into a sticky glaze, about 15 minutes. Immediately shift the chestnuts to a warm serving a plate. Sprinkle with pepper and serve hot. To cook appetizer rumaki, stuff water chestnuts with chicken liver, wrap in bacon and bake.
