Icing sugar cookies

Tricia Yervood prepares this cookie for all Christmas holidays, because it is very suitable for decoration. She cools the dough at least an hour before rolling it out (but you don’t have to required!). Let the kids participate in sugar decorating cookies with icing, caramel crumbs and confetti. The recipes use volumetric containers: 1 cup (tbsp.) – 240 ml. 3/4 cup (st.) – 180 ml. 1/2 cup (tbsp.) – 120 ml. 1/3 cup (st.) – 80 ml. 1/4 cup (st.) – 60 ml. 1 tablespoon (tbsp.) – 15 ml. 1teaspoon (tsp) – 5 ml.

Ingredients for the recipe:

For shortcrust pastry:

  • 2 tbsp. flour for baking, as well as for sprinkling
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp fine salt
  • 0.5 tbsp. (110 g.) Butter
  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

For glaze:

  • 450 g icing sugar
  • 3 tbsp. l powder for making meringue
  • 1/3 Art. warm water (up to 35 C)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Assortment of colored sugar and pieces of candy

Recipe preparation:

  1. To make cookies: sift flour together, baking powder and salt. In a large bowl using an electric beat the butter and sugar until lightly formed air mass (about 2 minutes). Add the egg and carefully mix. Gradually add all sifted dry ingredients (one spoonful). Add vanilla. Leave the dough for biscuits in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour
  2. Preheat the oven to 200C. Divide the dough into 2 parts: one leave half in the refrigerator, roll the other slightly floured surface, to a thickness of 0.4 – 0.5 cm. Using special molds cut the dough. (For medium cookies size use molds measuring 6 cm). Put the cookies on 5 cm apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Put put it in the refrigerator for a few minutes before baking. This will help keep the shape of cookies in the baking process. (You can use trimming dough to create a new batch of cookies). Bake until the edges of the cookie will not turn brown, 8 – 10 minutes. (if a bake two baking sheets at the same time, swap them in baking process). Cool cookies on a baking sheet 1 – 2 min. before how to let them cool completely.
  3. To prepare the icing: in a medium bowl mix with a whisk icing sugar, meringue powder and warm water. Stir until the glaze is smooth. Control the consistency of the glaze by adding more sugar to it or water if necessary. Add food if desired dye. Spread the icing on the cooled cookies, and put on top jewelry-assorted. Further information: powder for cooking meringues are sold in banks. It is used instead of egg protein in many glaze recipes.
