Basbosa (Basbosa) – Egyptian Coconut pie

Dough

  • Butter – 150 grams
  • Condensed milk – 400 grams
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs – 2 pieces
  • Semolina – 2 glasses
  • Coconut flakes – 1 cup
  • Coconut milk – 1 cup

Syrup

  • Sugar – 1.5 cups
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
  • Orange Food Coloring – 1 teaspoon

Recipe preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C.
  2. Grease a large rectangular baking dish with butter. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix with a large wooden spoon butter, condensed milk and baking powder. Add eggs and well mix. Add semolina, coconut and coconut milk. Knead well again.
  4. Put the dough in the prepared form, bake 35 – 40 minutes (until the top surface is browned).
  5. Prepare syrup. Pour sugar in a small bowl and pour water. Cook over medium heat for about 8 to 10 minutes. Take off the fire add lemon juice and orange dye.
  6. Once the Busbus is cooked, remove it from the oven, give cool on a wire rack and pour in syrup. Serve on a table temperature.
