Kansas City Style Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 2 tbsp. l vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp. chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crush
  • 1 tbsp. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp. ketchup
  • 3 tbsp. l dark brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. l molasses
  • 3 tbsp. l worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp. l tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp. l mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Coarse salt
  • 2 tsp smoking liquid (flavoring liquid smoke)

Recipe preparation:

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a pan with a thick bottom. Add onion, garlic and fry, stirring, 6 – 7 min., until golden brown. Add tomato sauce, 1 tbsp. water, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, mustard, garlic powder and 1 tsp. salt.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce the temperature and cook when boil until onion is soft, about 15 minutes. Stir in smoking liquid and strain the sauce through a sieve.
