Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 1 tbsp. red lentils (rinse, soak for 1 hour and strain)
  • 1 large, diced tomato
  • 2 sliced garlic cloves
  • 1 halved and peeled green chili serrano
  • Peeled and chopped piece of fresh ginger 2.5 cm.
  • 1 onion chopped into thin rings medium size
  • 2 tbsp. l canola oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • Salt
  • Honey
  • Serving options: with chopped fresh cilantro, yogurt, slices of lemon or lime

Recipe preparation:

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, mix the lentils, garlic, chili, ginger, onions, tomatoes and so much water to make it was taller than lentils. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer with a slight boil until lentils are soft, 30-45 min., so that it boils. Stir the cooked lentils.
  2. In a small skillet over medium heat, heat the oil. Put cumin seeds and fry until they begin to hiss and shoot. Add paprika and turmeric. Pour into the lentils flavored oil (be prepared for the fact that it will sizzle strongly). Stir, salt and add some honey. Spread the soup over bowl, sprinkle with cilantro, add yogurt and serve with slices lemon or lime.
